Aqara today revealed two new smart home security products: a Valve Controller T1 for worldwide distribution and a smoke Detector for European markets. With Apple HomeKit connectivity and Matter compatibility, both devices add to the company’s home security offering.
By retrofitting into already-existing residential water valves, the Valve Controller T1 is intended to stop water damage. When connected to leak sensors, it may immediately stop the flow of water. It is compatible with standard pipe sizes ranging from 1/2″ to 1″. Four AA batteries, with a two-year estimated battery life, power the controller.
With its 85-decibel siren and smartphone notifications for smoke detection, the new smoke Detector is only available in Europe. Aqara cameras allow homeowners to see confirm alarms from a distance. For whole-house alarms, the detector can also activate grouped smoke detectors and additional Aqara hub sirens.
Through Matter-over-Bridge compatibility, both devices are compatible with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Home. This makes it possible for automated processes to occur, such as turning off HVAC systems to stop the spread of smoke or flashing smart lighting red when smoke is detected.
With a battery life of up to ten years, the smoke detector uses the Zigbee protocol for economical power use. The Aqara Home app allows for configuration and monitoring of both devices.
Aqara’s Amazon stores in the US and Europe currently carry the Valve Controller T1. Aqara’s European Amazon sites and a few other vendors sell the smoke detector.
